The Japan Rose Society was founded in 1948 and became the juridical foundation in 1962, authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture. The purpose of the Society is: to encourage people to plant roses throughout the nation, to preserve the environment, and to encourage rosarians to exchange information and knowledge internationally.

The Japan Rose Society conducts International Rose Trials every year in cooperation with Metropolitan Tokyo, at the Jindai Botanical Garden.

It publishes a monthly Rose Letter and an Annual Report for members. It also holds Rose Exhibitions nationally and locally in spring and in autumn. A unique activity of the Society is to provide newly bred rose stock to each member every spring.
